The January issue of V-Jump, officially slated for release this Friday (21 November 2014), features a detailed “DB Scoop” on the upcoming Dragon Ball Z movie (originally reported by Anime News Network). The scoop features a new visual for the film, the first seen since the movie was announced this past July. It is more than likely the movie’s official poster, which features our main protagonists, Beerus, Whis, Freeza, and two new unsavory characters.

Opening day, set at last!!! Saturday, 18 April 2015: A super-wide release nationwide in 2D and 3D!!!

Unlike with the previous film, Kami to Kami / Battle of Gods, no supplementary or alternative English title is provided. The movie will premiere nationwide in Japan 18 April 2015 in both 2D and 3D formats. This release date is a bit earlier than expected by most, but it is perhaps intended to build the movie’s momentum going into the Golden Week holiday break.

At the moment we cannot verify plot details — or Toriyama’s comments — beyond what is currently described elsewhere. However, the general plot details from Anime News Network are as follows:

An Earth where peace has arrived. However, remnants of Freeza’s army Sorbet and Tagoma arrive on the planet. Their goal is to revive Freeza with the Dragon Balls. Their dastardly wish is granted, and the “F” that plans its revenge against the Saiyans is revived…!

Two new characters will appear in the movie: Sorbet (ソルベ) and Tagoma (タゴマ), shown below on the left and right, respectively. Following the fine nuances of the name puns in the last film, these name puns seem awfully transparent. As with all of Freeza’s minions, as described by Akira Toriyama in the Super Exciting Guide volumes, the names are “unified as food items that one puts inside [a refrigerator]”. Therefore, Sorbet gets his name directly from the frozen dessert “sorbet”, while Tagoma’s name is derived from the Japanese word tamago (卵), meaning “egg”.

A mysterious pair of planetary warriors, equipped with the latest type of battle armor!! “Tagoma” in particular looks to be wearing a new type of Scouter!!

The tidbit about the new type of Scouter is very reminiscent of what Toriyama revealed in his interview with Naho Ooishi in the July 2014 issue of Saikyō Jump. He stated (bold added for emphasis):

If you’re a soldier in Freeza’s army, you can have one made to order to fit your ear. The different screen colors can be chosen to fit the peculiarities of different aliens’ eyes, or to suit one’s tastes. Also, dual-eye types exist as well.

This comment came just one month prior to the new movie being officially announced, so it is likely that Toriyama slipped this tidbit in solely because of his work on the upcoming movie, possibly having just drawn these character designs. Also of note is the text reading “更なる変” that is cut off in the upper right corner. This is likely the phrase “更なる変身”, which means “further transformation(s)”. Based on the image available, there is no indication whether this is in reference to Freeza or a Saiyan warrior.

[As with the last movie], I thought up the new story for the next Dragon Ball theatrical movie as though it were a continuation of the manga when it was in serialization. Just the fact that I don’t have to draw anything means I can obsess completely over the smallest bits of dialogue. Well, the truth is that I wasn’t planning on going that far, since it’s pretty exhausting at my age, but I got a little carried away.

This time will of course be a continuation of the previous Battle of Gods, but I’ve deliberately increased the amount of action scenes by a good deal. With regards to the contents, they told me, “Keep it a secret!” like they’re all high-and-mighty, so I can’t touch on it yet, but it should be super-duper interesting!

The fact that I’d say that, when I’m not big on the flashy action-stuff, means there’s no doubt about it! Even my very first editor Torishima, who rarely ever praises me, said, “This is good!”

Absolutely no doubt about it! …Although it won’t be any good if I say that too loudly and people end up disappointed by it, but at the very least, I’m confident that the contents are something that the fans will be able to thoroughly enjoy! Right now, I’m drawing the design illustrations for the new character[s] and such. The movie’s completion is still a ways out in the future, but please look forward to it!!

Awesome! Estou com as expectativas em alta. Será que vai mostrar as lutas com um/alguns dos restantes Hakaishins? O próximo filme não era suposto ter o Vegeta como protagonista BTW?

O Tori disse que sim mas pode ter mudado de ideias. As personagens principais continuam a ser o Goku e o Gohan.

Espero que desta vez não haja incoerências com as idades. O Whis disse que o Beerus acordava 3 anos depois. Por isso, provavelmente o filme vai-se passar quando o Beerus acordar. Não quero que o Goten e o Trunks tenham 7 anos quando são supostos ter 15.

With the impending “official announcement” of a new Dragon Ball Z movie coming this weekend in both V-Jump and Weekly Shōnen Jump, Toei has been hard at work creating the new movie’s official website. On 15 July 2014, mere hours after news of the movie first broke online, Toei acquired the dragonball2015.com domain and shortly thereafter updated it with the message “coming soon”. As of this post the website is currently locked down, requiring a password to gain access, presumably so it can be updated without the prying eyes of the internet. However, the page’s code is still viewable, and many fans took note of a metadata image hidden within the page’s code that will appear when the site is linked to on various social media networks, such as Facebook.

The illustration itself appears to be the movie’s official promotional artwork, as it is the same one being used for the official announcements in V-Jump and Weekly Shōnen Jump. The top of this promotional image appears to contain the movie’s tagline:

The tagline is chock full of wordplay, which can be somewhat misleading. In this case the 神 (shin; read as “godly”) is a pun on something “new” and 次元 (jigen; read as “dimension”) can also be interpreted as a synonym for “scale”, giving us an indication that the battle, and possibly even the movie itself, will be on a “new level” (not necessarily that it’s taking place in a “new/godly dimension”). You’ll also notice that this is very similar in character to the original taglines used for Battle of Gods, which was 最強、始動。(“The mightiest make their move.” — or perhaps in light of the plot revealed later on, “The Strongest Stirs.”), followed by 全人類待望。かつてない興奮へー。 (“All Humanity Has Been Waiting. Toward an Unprecedented Excitement–.”).

The movie is still yet unnamed, which was also the case back in 2012 with the lead-up to Battle of Gods, and is simply being referred to as “Dragon Ball Z”. No exact premiere date has been set yet, but the movie is slated to open during Japan’s “Golden Week” in 2015. As with Battle of Gods, original author Akira Toriyama will once again be providing the original concept, writing the script, and drawing character designs. The official website will more than likely go live to the public this weekend when the aforementioned Jump anthologies hit store shelves, so stayed tuned!

Com esse título parece-me cada vez mais óbvio que será uma luta contra outro/outros Hakaishins. Isso da dimensão deve ser um sítio qualquer entre o universo do Goku e o dos gajos.

Eu mencionei o Bardock na shout há uns dias que podia ser o Bardock. Não me parece que o Akira tenha feito aquele capítulo especial só porque sim. Não sei se gostava que ele fosse revivido. Mas o Bardock não foi para o Inferno? Não é por ter tentado matar o Freeza que passou a ser uma boa pessoa. Se não me engano acho que não dá para reviver alguém que foi para o inferno (porque ficam sem o seu corpo). O Broly não é canon, i guess. E o avô Gohan só se for para contar algum segredo sobre o Goku de quando ele era pequeno.

Se o Bardock for revivido é o do DB Minus, a versão do Akira, que apesar de continuar a matar alienígenas, é muito mais bondoso que a versão dele em anime. O Broly é non canon mas o Tori pode fazer uma versão dele ele mesmo, como fez com o Bardock, apesar de ser improvável.

Não vejo motivo para o Bardock e Gohan regressarem e não vejo porque iriam causar algo mau como o filme implica por regressarem. Quase de certeza que é uma personagem nova a pedir o desejo, e a personagem ressuscitada é nova também. Semelhante à relação Babidi/Buu e Hoi/Hirudegarn.

Também acho. Em vez de andarem a lançar filmes a cada 2 anos bem que podiam fazer uma OVA com esta cena dos Hakaishins, anda um gajo a esperar 1 ano para o filme sair no cinema e depois ainda tem que esperar mais meio ano para o ver na net.

Tens alguma teoria sobre quem será revivido?

Há uma teoria no Kanzenshuu que é ressuscitaram o antigo SSJG, só que ele enquanto estava morto teria tornado-se evil de um modo qualquer.

O problema com essa teoria é que o antigo SSJG teria um PL à volta de 1-20k em base e tinha sorte se chegasse aos 100M em SSJG, enquanto que o Goku e Vegeta em base já têm à volta disso ou muito mais. Já para não falar que o SSJG original não conseguiu guardar o poder como o Goku, motivo pelo que perdeu. De qualquer forma, se ressuscitassem o SSJG original, ele não seria um grande adversário.

Se manteve o seu corpo, isto é. Se se tornou evil, o mais provável é o seu corpo ter sido retirado novamente. Acho que esta hipótese não é muito fiável.

Com o Toriyama nunca se consegue prever o que ele vai fazer, por isso.

Por isso é um bocado óbvio que vai ter algo a ver com os 12 universos e os Deuses da Destruição, a não ser que tivessem metido esta linha aqui para nos enganarem de propósito. Contudo, ainda é muito cedo por isso duvido que tenham o filme planeado por completo quando disseram isso, sendo que pode mudar, mas duvido, o tema principal focar-se-à nisso.

Sendo que é semelhante ao Battle of Gods em tagline e o Akira disse que era uma sequela direta, podemos estar confiantes que o Beerus/Whis ou pelo menos algo que diga respeito a eles vá acontecer no filme, visto que duvido que eles vão para outro universo.

Contudo, pode acontecer que o filme nos esteja a mostrar antes o que está a acontecer noutro universo. Isto é uma teoria que acabei de criar e apesar de ser improvável, seria interessante. Contudo, duvido, porque o trailer nos mostrou o Goku. E a não ser que seja um universo quase igual, duvido que o Goku, ou melhor, o Kakarotto fosse importante nessa altura do campeonato.

Sendo que vão reviver alguém, tenho 99% certeza que vai ser uma nova personagem. Gostaria de ver uma vilã feminina, ou então um adversário que não seja muito forte em termos de powerlevel, mas sim que tenha habilidades estranhas como o Janemba, o Raichi ou o Guldo por exemplo, e que desse trabalho aos Z Senshi. Ilusões poderiam dar uma chance ao Vegeta de brilhar, visto que este já demonstrou ter resistência contra ataques mentais com o Babidi.

Em termos da equipa de produção, a animação vai ser liderada pelo Tadayoshi Yamamuro que no passado foi talvez o melhor animador que tivemos mas agora já não é o mesmo. Apesar do Battle of Gods ser muito bom em termos de animação, ainda teve alguns problemas aqui e ali e, na minha opinião, não tem a mesma qualidade (de animação) que o filme 12 ou 13. Mas veremos, a parte do Goku a transformar-se em SSJ no teaser tá boa, apesar de não estar nada de extraordinário. Só quero um bom filme, mas claro que a animação ajuda.

O Toriyama vai ter controlo completo sobre o guião desta vez, ao contrário do Battle of Gods onde ele deixou os gajos da Toei escrever e depois editou o que foi preciso. Visto que ele editou porque achou que seria ofensivo às vítimas do terramoto (2 ou 3 anos depois?), acho que este filme já vai ser mais dark, tipo o Tree of Might ou Filme 13. E aliás, o teaser implica isso. Contudo, não quero que seja muito. Porque mesmo apesar do Toriyama ter demonstrado varias vezes que consegue ser dark quando quer, o espírito de Dragon Ball foi sempre algo divertido e cómico. Avançando, o edito do Toriyama que disse que o trabalho dele era bom foi o que teve com ele durante o DB original e parte da saga Saiyajin, por isso acho que podemos esperar um muito bom filme.

Resumindo, já do princípio que estive hypado e estava confiante que iamos receber um bom filme, e os meus sentimentos ainda não mudaram. Cada dia é uma tortura, por não recebermos nova informação.

O Akira disse numa entrevista que a história deste filme, ele gostava de a ter usado quando DB ainda estava em publicação. Especulando que o Beerus é algo que o Akira apenas pensou recentemente, é possível que o novo filme seja sobre alguma coisa completamente à parte da cena dos Hakaishins?

Foi uma tradução errada. Ele disse que ia trabalhar nisto como se fosse um manga em serialização.

Porquê? Honestamente a este ponto prefiro isto dos Deuses em vez de recebermos algo com provavelmente inferior qualidade à saga Buu.

O filme desde que saiu conseguiu angariar 50,7 milhões de doláres em todo o mundo até o dia de hoje. Para comparação, é mais que o dobro que o Road to Ninja de Naruto e um pouco mais que metade que o Film Z de One Piece. Sendo que é estimado que o budget do filme esteja nos baixos milhões (um único dígito), e que um filme necessita de vender pelo menos o dobro do budget para garantir futuras sequelas, e que o próprio filme já foi confirmado que irá ter uma sequela, pode-se dizer que foi um sucesso.

O problema é quanto é que este vai vender? É porque com o BoG era aquilo "OH FDS PQP, UM NOVO FILME EM 20 ANOS CRL". Aqui já vai ser mais aquele sentimento "Ah, um novo filme, fixe". Não sei, veremos. Espero ver mais que apenas estes 2. Pelo menos uma trilogia seria fixe.
